About Us

History

In 1985, the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce (British Columbia) Inc. was established through the energy and enthusiasm of three forward-thinking business leaders: Peter Brunold, Adrian Hartmann and Peter Schaub. This team recognized the need for a type of non-profit organization to bring together Swiss and Canadian business people in British Columbia who could benefit from a networking forum to strengthen business and trade relationships among themselves as well as between their two countries. The organization flourished and within 3 years enjoyed a membership of over 100 members.

Over the years, the SCCC has hosted many events to bring members and guests together: business luncheons with well-known business leaders, receptions for new members and dignitaries, a Swiss business day seminar in 1991, company visits/presentations, golf tournaments and gala dinners have all been organized through thousands of volunteer hours. In 1996, the SCCC, under the leadership of Thomas Amgwerd, was instrumental in hosting the Swiss Pavilion at Globe '96, a biennial business and environmental conference, attracting more than 10,000 people with over 3000 business leads.

The SCCC maintains close contact with the Swiss Consul General as well as other Swiss and European organizations in Vancouver to enhance the membership's opportunity to establish new business and personal contacts. As well, through the membership, contacts can be made with top business leaders in Asia, North America and Europe.
