EFTA Seminar & Luncheon on March 4, 2009
Dear Members,
On January 26, 2008, the countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and Canada concluded a Free Trade Agreement, in Davos, Switzerland. The members of the EFTA are Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. This agreement will create greater trading opportunities for all parties involved by eliminating or reducing tariffs on a range of goods and agricultural products. It is the first trade agreement that Canada has concluded with European countries.
The embassies of the EFTA countries will stage events throughout Canada to promote this agreement, in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. A seminar is being organized in Vancouver by the Regional Office of the Trade Commissioner Service and the Consulate General of Switzerland, for Wednesday, March 4th, 2009. Representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, EFTA Ambassadors and Senior Trade Commissioners based in the EFTA capitals will be attending the seminar. They will be joined by a high ranking specialist from the Federal Department of Economic Affairs in Berne and CEOs of different companies. Various panels will focus on areas of excellence of the different countries. The participants will also be addressed by one or two keynote speakers
