The Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce is looking back on a successful year full of interesting events. Thanks to their members and friends, the chamber was able to organize different social and business events and this article will look back on all the events of 2017. At the end we would like to give you a short outlook on 2018.
January // Fondue Night
2017 was kicked off with the second Fondue night which was organized at the chalet of the Swiss Canadian Mountain Range Association in Coquitlam. Together with 70 members and friends of the chamber and the mountain range, the guests ate more than 25 pounds of cheese, a local record! Check out the pictures and the article about the event.
May // Annual General Meeting
In the beginning of May, the Annual General Meeting took place where the chamber said goodbye to two directors, Bernhard Gafner and Jacqueline Banz. Jacqueline will keep on supporting the chamber as an advisor. At the same time, two new directors joined the board: Heiko Riese from UBS and Chris Abel from Lindt&Sprungli.
May // Speaker’s Night
At the end of May, the chamber invited to a Speaker’s Night with the topic “Real Estate & Construction”.
Franz Gehriger from SwissReal in Vancouver was holding a presentation on the new Exchange building, known as the greenest building in Vancouver. The audience got the chance to ask questions about the new building on Hastings and Howe as well as the real estate situation in Vancouver. Read the article about it.
June // Pub Night
Shortly before summer vacation, the chamber organized a Pub Night at Mahony&Sons to celebrate the Summer Solstice. The weather was perfect and the view on Downtown at Mahony&Sons was great. This event was a good opportunity to talk and catch up in a more social environment.
October // The Swiss Crypto Valley Cocktail Event
After the summer break, the chamber organized a Swiss Crypto Valley Cocktail Event at the RBC on Georgia Street. The topic of the evening was blockchain, bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Lukas Sieber from the Greater Zurich Area, Thomas Linder from MME, a law firm in Switzerland, and Guy Halford-Thompson from BTL in Vancouver shared their expertise with more than 90 people. November // Pre-Christmas Reception
The year 2017 was completed with the annual Pre-Christmas Reception and Fundraising Event. With the help of many donors, more than 40 items were auctioned and thanks to the attendants of the event the chamber could raise more than $4000. It has been a great success and the directors of the chamber would like to thank everyone who made it happen. Read more about the event and check out the pictures in our article.
New Year 2018
In a couple of days, it is time to welcome the New Year and we would like to give you a small outlook.
The year will be kicked off once again with a Fondue Night on January 20, 2018 at the Swiss Canadian Mountain Range in Coquitlam. Furthermore, the chamber is planning one event per season with a specific topic. The subject of the spring event will be “Leading construction technology” with the focus on the city of Vancouver.
