Building bridges between Western Canada and Europe

The Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce joined forces with 9 other Chambers and Business Clubs in Western Canada and successfully organized a full-day virtual networking event on October 27, 2020.

A couple of months ago the Belgian Business Club reached out to the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) and 8 other European Business Associations in Western Canada to embrace the pandemic and to find new innovative ways of collaboration. The result was a unique full-day networking event where 120 participants from Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia joined interesting talks and benefited from one-to-one networking opportunities during the whole day with any other participant.

One-to-one meetings with Conversation starter
For the full day attendees were able to meet, connect and network with any other participant of the event on the virtual platform called ‘Conversation Starter’. During short but effective 10min video calls attendees were given the opportunity to meet potential new clients, business partners, employers and professionals. During the whole day 209 one-to one meetings were successfully scheduled!

9 speakers on the clock
In addition, to the one-to-one meetings, attendees had the chance to listen to 9 interesting talks about trade, business and personal growth. After each presentation participants were given the chance to ask questions. In the morning sessions we had the pleasure to even welcome attendees from European countries such as Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia. They were able to get first hand information about trade and how to do or establish a business in Western Canada as a European corporation.

The afternoon was filled with insightful presentations about business topics and personal growth. Our business member, Brigit Eichenberger, closed the afternoon session with an interesting talk on ‘How to use your voice to deliver your message effectively during virtual meetings’.

It was certainly a successful event and not the last collaboration of European Chambers and Business Clubs in Western Canada. Stay tuned for more joined events to come in 2021!

We would like to thank all speakers for their dedication and time, the Belgian Business Club for initiating this great event and all the participating European Chambers of Commerce and Business Clubs in Western Canada.
