For the very first time, the popular SCCC Silent Auction was held online and closed during a fun and jolly Christmas Gala Night on December 3. 72 Silent Auction items, over 35 event attendees, and a live concert – it was for sure a successful and memorable Christmas & Silent auction event!
Usually, around this time of the year, the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) would invite their members and friends to the traditional annual Christmas Reception and Silent Auction Event. But 2020 has been a very special year, and not the easiest for most of us. So instead of completely canceling this popular event, the SCCC decided to offer their members at least an online Silent Auction and virtual Christmas celebration.
The online Silent Auction
At the beginning of the event planning, we weren’t sure if we would even get enough donation items for the Silent Auction. 2020 was for sure not the easiest year to ask for donations. However, thanks to the phenomenal generosity of the members and friends of the Chamber, 72 items were offered at this year’s silent auction, even more than at the 2019 auction.
Among the most popular items were several Swiss cheeses, wines and meat charcuteries as well as several stays at Swiss owned lodges in British Columbia. The auction was closed during the virtual Christmas Gala Night and there were definitely a lot of last minute bidding battles going on.
If you are interested in this year’s silent auction items, you can find the online catalog here.
The Christmas Gala Night
The Silent Auction was closed during the Christmas Gala Night on Zoom and over 35 participants joined the virtual event. Fabian Lemann, SCCC President, moderated the evening and started the event by giving some updates on the SCCC. Our guest speaker, Consul General, Andreas Rufer, reviewed the year and gave an outlook on the Consulate’s projects and events in the new year.
After some breakout-sessions where attendees could chat and connect we had a special surprise for our guests: a live online concert by Canadian singer and songwriter Jess Vaira.
If you would like to listen to Jess or want to rewatch the event, we invite you to have a look at the recording.
We would like to thank everyone for attending this event, bidding so generously and donating amazing prizes. And thanks to Jess Vaira for the wonderful music. We appreciate your ongoing support of the Chamber during and wish you all a safe and healthy new year!
